Description

A set of five 4″x6″ vintage Toronto postcards, reprinted to include some historical details on the reverse. The image on the front is unaltered.

  1. On the Beach, Sunnyside: From approximately 1932, and depicts the Sunnyside Pavilion which still stands today on Sunnyside Beach in Parkdale.
  2. Yonge Street at Queen: From approximately 1910, and depicts Yonge Street looking north, at the intersection with Queen Street. The Bank of Montreal building on the right and the Woolworth building on the left are both still recognizable today.
  3. Interior of Train, Canada’s First Subway: From approximately 1956, and depicts the interior of the Yonge subway which opened in 1954, and ran between Union and Eglinton stations.
  4. Corner of Church, Front, and Wellington Streets: From approximately 1910, and depicts the Flatiron Building which was completed in 1892 and still stands today.
  5. Trinity University: From approximately 1905, and depicts Trinity University, which stood on what is today Trinity Bellwoods Park. Trinity University eventually joined University of Toronto as Trinity College, and this original building was demolished in the 1950s.
